A mediator is a neutral third party who helps two people reach an agreement.
Child-Focused Parenting Plan Mediation is a free program that helps families to make a parenting plan.
The mediation program can only help with parenting issues. The program does not:
- Help with issues like child support, spousal support, division of property, or personal conflict.
- Provide legal advice.
It is common to have concerns about mediation. You may have concerns about communication because of power imbalances in your relationship. Or, you may find it challenging to be in the same room as your former partner.
You will only know for sure if you are eligible for a program by doing their intake process, however, here are some things to consider:
- Mediation is voluntary. You must both agree to participate.
- Mediators are trauma-informed and aware of power dynamics. You can ask them about your concerns. In some cases, they can make accommodations based on your situation.
- Mediation aims to give you and your ex-partner a safe place to work through problems without going to court. Mediation can be less stressful than going to court.
